New from SpeakEasy Press- "Cherokee Phoenix: Advent of a Newspaper"

The beginnings of the newspaper of the Cherokee Nation, printed 1828 to 1834 in what is today northern Georgia, have been explored and published in a limited edition hand bound book. The text describes the printing press, metal printing type and paper used in the printing of the first Native American newspaper. An analysis of original metal type has been conducted, and the exact type of printing press used by the Cherokee Nation has been revealed. The monograph includes a chronology of events related to the print shop.
