Hertzog award announced; entries by November 1

The competition is open to presses and publishers of all types and sizes. The winner and runners-up will receive national publicity and their books will be exhibited in the University Library of the University of Texas at El Paso for two months after the announcement of the award on March 6, 2015. Not to mention a $1000 cash prize.

The event is sponsored by the Friends of the Library to underscore the importance of fine printing as an art and to encourage work by new and established artisans. We’ve got their press release and also their entry form available.

Many famous presses have won in prior years: Midnight Paper Sales for Mayflies, Robin Price for Dooley Poems, Windhover for The Continuous Life, Ninja for Lives of the Artists. Meanwhile, the library staff gets to see some of the best books; they have been known to acquire favorites.
