Grolier Conference on Books in Hard Times

New York’s Grolier Club sponsored a one-day conference September 22 on “Books in Hard Times.” It’s succinctly summarized on Philobiblos by Jeremy Dibbell. Among the zingers: Priscilla Juvellis said she’s working “twice as hard to sell half as many books,” and William Reese saying that that small and medium-sized institutions and public libraries may lean toward “getting out of the rare book business,” because their priorities may not include maintaining collections of rare and valuable books in perpetuity.
