  1. Bobby Tan Says:

I see that this post is a couple or years old now. Is the Carl Hertzog Award still an annual event? If so, where can I learn more?

  2. Paul Says:

    Hi Bobby,
I don’t have an answer to your question but I suggest you contact Claudia Rivers, the Head of Special Collections at the University of Texas at El Paso. I believe she is the administer of the prize. Her email is:

    crivers [at] utep.edu

and her phone number is (915) 747-6725.

I wish they had a website for this prize because it is difficult to find information on this prize and its past winners.

  3. Ryan Says:

Help! Does anyone know where I can find the complete list of this years’ winners of the Carl Hertzog Award for Excellence in Book Design? Google has drawn a blank.

  4. Hank Jones on Remodeling Phoenix Says:

Carl Hertzog Award for Excellence in Book Design is a yearly event that honors the lifework of one of this country’s most accomplished book designers and printers, the late Carl Hertzog. It is being sponsored by the Associates of the University Library. Hertzog volumes were frequently recognized in the Western Books of the Los Angeles.

This competition gives chance to great presses and publishers to exhibit their works in the University Library of the University of Texas.

As what Hertzog believed, “Printing should be both subtle and imaginative”
